Baseball Game Preview: Hazelwood West Wildcats vs. McCluer North Stars

The Hazelwood West Wildcats will venture away from home to face off against the McCluer North Stars at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Hazelwood West hasn't scored more than a single run for three games straight, a trend the team is eager to reverse.

Having struggled with seven losses in a row, Hazelwood West turned things around against Hazelwood Central on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Hawks 1-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted since April 20, 2024.

Meanwhile, McCluer North might've scored the first runs on Wednesday, but it was Hazelwood Central who claimed the real prize. The Stars fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 7-6.

Daron Phillips made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

McCluer North's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Hazelwood West, their victory bumped their record up to 13-18.

Hazelwood West took their win against McCluer North in their previous meeting back in March by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
