Lexington had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt McNairy Central on Thursday. Lexington got a great performance from Ashlynn Utley as she pitched six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave Utley a new career-high in strikeouts (four).
On the hitting side, Holly Bartholomew and Carly Williams did most of the damage at the plate: Bartholomew went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple, while Williams went 1-for-2 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Bartholomew a new career-high. Lane Huskey was another key player, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and one run.
The victory was the sixth in a row for Lexington, bringing their record up to 20-8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for McNairy Central, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lexington will take on University School of Jackson at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
