Baseball Game Preview: Yorba Linda Mustangs vs. Douglas Tigers

The Yorba Linda Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Douglas Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Yorba Linda will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

Yorba Linda is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past McQueen 15-7 on Monday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Mustangs with their most commanding win of the season.

Yorba Linda got a great performance from Pierce Werner as he pitched five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Werner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, Nathan Schneider was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Yorba Linda is 2-1 when Schneider posts two or more runs, but 1-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenji Shirley, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Yorba Linda always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Douglas was a bit more limited in their match on Saturday. They lost 9-1 to Galena. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Yorba Linda's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-7. As for Douglas, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
