Volleyball Recap: Mt. Carmel Comes Up Short in High-Profile Match with Parkview Baptist

Mt. Carmel faced Parkview Baptist in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Cubs took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles. The Cubs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 2-0.

Mt. Carmel started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 23-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-17.

Lila Franovich paced Mt. Carmel's offense, picking up 19 kills. Franovich got some help from Sarah Clement and her 50 assists. Finally, Allie Steele kept Mt. Carmel's defense grounded, leading the team with three blocks.

This is the second loss in a row for Mt. Carmel and nudges their season record down to 34-5. As for Parkview Baptist, the win was the tenth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 22-10.

Coming up, Mt. Carmel will challenge Chalmette at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Parkview Baptist does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
