Football Recap: Emma Hernanadez Leads Grossmont's Defense on Thursday

If Grossmont was feeling good fresh off their 38-0 takedown of Vincent Memorial on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Foothillers took a 12-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cathedral Catholic Dons on Thursday. The Foothillers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Dons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Even if they lost, Grossmont's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In that department, Emma Hernanadez was the leader with two.

A big part of Cathedral Catholic's win came down to the chemistry between Sabrina Jutronich and her top target Emelia Barajas. Jutronich threw for 83 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Barajas picked up 69 receiving yards and one score.

Grossmont's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Cathedral Catholic, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Grossmont is headed away from home for the first time to face off against Olympian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cathedral Catholic, they will head out to square off against Patrick Henry at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The match will give the Dons their first taste of in-conference action this season.
