Basketball Recap: Payton Pape's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Peotone over Watseka

Peotone had taken Watseka down for four straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Wednesday. The Blue Devils took a 54-35 bruising from the Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Blue Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 484th, while the Warriors are ranked 84th).

Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Payton Pape, who posted nine points. Pape has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Callie Weiss was another key player, putting up seven points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Peotone's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Watseka, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

Looking ahead, Peotone won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Coal City at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Watseka, they will square off against St. Joseph-Ogden at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
