Mt. Pleasant fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Gunderson on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Grizzlies by a score of 9-8. The Cardinals' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Michael Blanco was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Nate Ortiz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Julian Saldana was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one double.

Mt. Pleasant's loss dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Gunderson, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season.

Mt. Pleasant will be playing at home against Independence at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals are facing the 76ers at the right time seeing as the 76ers are stuck on a 17-game losing streak. As for Gunderson, they are taking a road trip to square off against Overfelt at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Royals have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
