Preview: Brookfield Warriors vs. Crestview Rebels
Two dominant players in Cailey Wellman and Addison Rhodes are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Brookfield Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Crestview Rebels at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Brookfield is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Brookfield beat Liberty 36-32. The victory was just what Brookfield needed coming off of a 51-26 loss in their prior contest.
Wellman was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Mya Jumper, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, Crestview put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 64-13 win over Memorial on the road. Crestview has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 contests by 22 points or more this season.
Crestview found their leader in underclassman Rhodes, who dropped a double-double on 29 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rhodes has scored all season. Luvrain Gaskins was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with eight rebounds and six blocks.
Brookfield's record is now 5-10. Crestview's record now sits at 17-0.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Brookfield have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Crestview struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 34.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Brookfield took a serious blow against Crestview in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 74-22. Can Brookfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
