Preview: James Monroe Mavericks vs. Montcalm Generals
James Monroe is 9-1 against Montcalm since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The pair will face off at 5:45 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for James Monroe and six for Montcalm.
Last Tuesday, James Monroe suffered a tough 76-51 loss at the hands of Greenbrier East.
Despite the defeat, James Monroe had strong showings from Maggie Boroski, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds and six steals, and Mary Beth Meadows, who scored 13 points along with six assists and four steals. Meadows is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbigail Mathis, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, Montcalm came up short against Richwood two weeks ago and fell 52-41. Montcalm has struggled against Richwood recently, as their contest two weeks ago was their third consecutive lost matchup.
James Monroe's loss dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Montcalm, they dropped their record down to 3-10 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Everything came up roses for James Monroe against Montcalm when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 65-11 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for James Monroe since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
