Basketball Recap: Central Gets the Win

While Central's victory against Ellwood Christian wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lions pulled ahead with a 57-56 photo finish over the Eagles on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won five in a row.

Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Christian Lawrence out in front who dropped a double-double with 29 points and 11 boards. Lawrence's big performance that evening made it nine games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jvyion Gordon, who posted 17 points and three steals.

Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. They are 3-1 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Central now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Ellwood Christian, their loss was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Central will venture away from home to face off against Calhoun at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Ellwood Christian, they will head out to take on Maplesville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
