Baseball Recap: Sterling Victorious

Nederland typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Sterling proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Bulldogs. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

David Benavides spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Ryan Rodriguez was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Joesph Franco, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Sterling's win bumped their record up to 7-11. As for Nederland, with the loss, they broke their 13-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Nederland beat Sterling by a score of 5-1 on Saturday.
