Baseball Recap: East Lake Now 14-4 over Last 18 Games

East Lake extended their postseason success on Thursday against Sickles. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Gryphons a 5-0 shutout. This was a revenge game for the Eagles: when they faced off against the Gryphons on Wednesday, they had to take a 6-2 defeat.

Not much got past Hunter Wallerstein, who gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks to keep Sickles off the board. Wallerstein has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Andrew Sheffield, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Drew Gerber, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

East Lake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April.

East Lake is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 18 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.2 runs over those games. As for Sickles, their loss dropped their record down to 23-9.

East Lake will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Gryphons: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
