Basketball Recap: Carthage Takes a Loss

If Carthage was riding high fresh off their 64-27 takedown of Cumberland Academy last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Carthage Bulldogs fell to the Pine Tree Pirates 53-47. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pirates earlier this season, when they won 58-36.

Despite the loss, Carthage still got an impressive performance from Kaylen Igbokwe, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 17 rebounds. Igbokwe's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jakayla Teague, who posted three points and 12 boards.

Even though they lost, Carthage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 20 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 14 consecutive matches.

Carthage's loss dropped their record down to 18-17. As for Pine Tree, their victory was their 13th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-9.

As of now, neither Carthage nor Pine Tree have any future games scheduled.
