Softball Recap: Springfield Wins Going Away Against Athens

Springfield never let their opponents score on Monday. Everything went their way against the Athens Warriors as they made off with a 10-0 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Senators also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Mia Volpert made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Pagliara, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Erin Stoops, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Athens only posted an OBP of .000.

Springfield's record now sits at 12-3. As for Athens, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield will take on Warrensburg-Latham at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Athens, they will host Jacksonville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
