Basketball Game Preview: Madison County Mountaineers vs. Clarke County Eagles

The Madison County Mountaineers will head out on the road to face off against the Clarke County Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.

On Friday, Madison County lost to Central Woodstock at home by a 52-35 margin. While losing is never fun, the Mountaineers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 333rd, while the Falcons are ranked 157th).

Meanwhile, Clarke County entered their tilt with Luray on Friday with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. They blew past the Bulldogs 58-24. That's two games straight that the Eagles have won by exactly 34 points.

Clarke County pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.2 points over those games. As for Madison County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 12 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

Madison County took a serious blow against Clarke County when the teams last played back in January, falling 69-14. Can Madison County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
