Baseball Game Preview: Grace Lancers vs. Bishop Diego Cardinals

Grace has gone 9-1 against Bishop Diego recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:00 p.m. Grace is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Grace took a loss when they played away from home on March 12th, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They never let Fillmore get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Flashes: they've now won seven in a row.

Rudy Gargiulo made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Daniel Morlett, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Grace is 3-0-1 when Morlett posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-3-1 otherwise. Grayson Phillips also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Bishop Diego was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their 13th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 8-0 to Orcutt Academy.

Grace's victory bumped their record up to 5-3-2. As for Bishop Diego, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Everything went Grace's way against Bishop Diego in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Grace made off with a 25-1 win. Will Grace repeat their success, or does Bishop Diego has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
