Softball Recap: Brown Deer Takes a Loss

Brown Deer extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They took a 21-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Racine Horlick Rebels. Even if the Falcons couldn't come away with the win, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

For Racine Horlick's part, Madi Kaprelian spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and 11 unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 12 Ks. As a matter of fact, that's the most runs Kaprelian has scored all season.

On the hitting side, Madison Gomez and Malea Pina did most of the damage at the plate: Gomez got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, five runs, and one double, while Pina got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and four RBI. Pina also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Winkler, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

When Brown Deer and Racine Horlick next hit the field, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. The Falcons will take on Dominican and their eight-game winning streak at 8:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Racine Horlick will try to stop Kenosha Bradford's five-game winning streak when they meet at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
