The River City Raiders will venture away from home to take on the Vacaville Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. River City has given up an average of 10.7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
River City came up short against Pioneer on Friday, falling 14-2. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Patriots recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
River City saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emily Sauceda, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Kalyssa Carter also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Vacaville got the win against Wood on Friday by a conclusive 18-6. Considering the Bulldogs have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Laila Dean was a standout: she scored four runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Morgan, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Vacaville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Vacaville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.1 runs over those games. As for River City, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. River City hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Vacaville struggles in that department as they've averaged .385. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
River City might still be hurting after the 10-0 defeat they got from Vacaville when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
