Baseball Game Preview: Marin Catholic Wildcats vs. Alhambra Bulldogs

The Marin Catholic Wildcats will square off against the Alhambra Bulldogs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Marin Catholic is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Berkeley a 2-0 shutout. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wildcats have posted since March 12, 2024.

Jack McGovern and Cooper Benjamin dominated on the mound. McGovern didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched, while Benjamin pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave McGovern a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Marin Catholic's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Luke Martin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Those two runs gave Martin a new career-high. Jude Baker was another, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Friday. Alhambra took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Vacaville.
