Baseball Recap: Shepherd Victorious

Shepherd hadn't done well against Pinconning recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Bluejays narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Spartans 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bluejays have posted since May 28, 2024.

Kaden Yuncker spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Easton VanAlstine was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tucker VanAlstine, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Shepherd was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Shepherd's victory bumped their record up to 6-1-1. As for Pinconning, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-3.

Looking ahead, Shepherd will head out on the road to take on Beaverton at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pinconning, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Farwell at 4:00 p.m. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
