Basketball Recap: Ke?ra Baard's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Gering over Bridgeport

Gering lost against Bridgeport back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Gering Bulldogs fell 83-72 to the Bridgeport Bulldogs. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (66), Gering still had to take the loss.

Gering lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Ke?ra Baard, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Baard a new career-high in rebounds. Jacey Cochran was another key player, going 7 for 9 on her way to 15 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Tacey From had a dynamite game for Bridgeport, going 11 of 21 on her way to 31 points along with seven steals and five boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which From has scored at least a third of Bridgeport's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Schluterbusch, who went 6 of 11 on her way to 15 points in addition to five assists and four steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Gering and nudges their season record down to 1-2. As for Bridgeport, they pushed their record up to 3-0 with the win, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Gering will venture away from home to square off against Chadron at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Bridgeport, they will be defending their home court for the first time this season when they go up against Hemingford at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Bridgeport knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Hemingford likes a good challenge.
