Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Lane Tech

Lane Tech had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Northside Mustangs a 16-0 shutout. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-0 back in March.

Sofia Stronsky looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Olivia Segura was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Arianna Marin, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Lane Tech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.

Lane Tech's record now sits at 17-8. As for Northside, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9-1.

Coming up, Lane Tech will head out on the road to square off against Conant at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Champions 3.3, the Cougars 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Northside, they will host Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
