Baseball Recap: Martinsville Comes Up Short

Martinsville couldn't beat Dan River on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the seventh inning. The Bulldogs came up short against the Wildcats, falling 14-5. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Daniel Niblett was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Martinsville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-16 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Eland Blankenbaker, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

Martinsville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Dan River, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Martinsville does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Dan River, they will head out on the road to square off against William Campbell at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
