Softball Recap: Chadwick Comes Up Short

Chadwick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mayfield Cubs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Dolphins have suffered against the Cubs since April 27, 2021.

Sammy Santa Ana spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Chadwick saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Araya Tekeste, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Dami Ogundimu also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Chadwick's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Mayfield, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-5-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Chadwick will challenge rival Polytechnic at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Mayfield is set to square off against their familiar foe Rio Hondo Prep at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
