Basketball Game Preview: Germantown Mavericks vs. Starkville Yellowjackets

Germantown is 1-7 against Starkville since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Germantown Mavericks will venture away from home to square off against the Starkville Yellowjackets at 7:30 p.m. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Germantown sitting on seven straight victories and Starkville on six.

Germantown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Hall, who was ranked 23rd in their home state at the time (Germantown was ranked first). Germantown strolled past Hall with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 64-46. That's two games straight that the Mavericks have won by exactly 18 points.

Gulfport typically has all the answers at home, but on Saturday Starkville proved too difficult a challenge. They enjoyed a cozy 65-48 win over the Admirals.

Starkville pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.4 points per game. As for Germantown, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.

Germantown beat Starkville 37-30 when the teams last played back in February. The rematch might be a little tougher for Germantown since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
