Baseball Recap: Pinelands Regional Comes Up Short

Pinelands Regional extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-12 in the process. They lost 8-2 to the Neptune Scarlet Fliers. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Scarlet Fliers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

As for Neptune, their victory ended an eight-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-10. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 17, 2024 (when they won 10-0).

For Neptune's part, Trevor Rummel and Jack Gamba-Ellis made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Rummel tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Gamba-Ellis struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At the plate, Rummel went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Gamba-Ellis went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Gamba-Ellis also put up a triple, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jordan Torres, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pinelands Regional will head out to square off against Manchester Township at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Neptune, they will venture away from home to challenge Freehold Boro at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
