Baseball Recap: El Cajon Valley Takes a Loss

El Cajon Valley had lost 11 straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-18 to make it 12. They came up short against the West Hills Wolf Pack, falling 33-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolf Pack this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-0 on Thursday.

El Cajon Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matias Herrera, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

As for West Hills, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-11. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On West Hills' side, Carson-Kai Lewis made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lewis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in six of his eight plate appearances with five runs and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of West Hills' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 9-1 (and 6-10 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Joey Monetti was incredible, going 6-for-8 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. He has become a key player for West Hills: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-10 otherwise. Anthony Rosolino was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coming up, El Cajon Valley will square off against Mount Miguel at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Braves are facing the Matadors at the right time seeing as the Matadors are stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for West Hills, they will head out on the road to face off against Steele Canyon at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something the Wolf Pack surely won't give up without a fight.
