Soccer Recap: Mount Vernon Takes a Loss

Mount Vernon lost against Sulphur Springs back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Mount Vernon Tigers fell 4-2 to the Sulphur Springs Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 589th, while the Wildcats are ranked 168th).

Mount Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Sulphur Springs, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season.

Looking ahead, Mount Vernon will face off against Pittsburg at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pittsburg will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Mount Vernon surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sulphur Springs, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Sulphur Springs challenge the North Lamar at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with North Lamar sitting on five straight wins and Sulphur Springs on three.
