Softball Recap: Morenci Wildcats vs. Desert Christian Eagles
After flying high against Santa Rita last Tuesday, Morenci came back down to earth. The Wildcats fell just short of the Desert Christian Eagles by a score of 17-16 on Friday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2016.
Cameryn Woodall put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in March. She was even better at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jaliyah Hernandez made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Mayeli Salazar, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Morenci dropped their record down to 10-11 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Desert Christian, they moved to 4-12 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
Looking ahead, Morenci will head out to challenge Chandler Prep at 5:15 p.m. on Monday.
