Softball Game Preview: West Iredell Warriors vs. Foard Tigers

For the second straight game, West Iredell will face off against Foard. The Warriors will challenge the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. West Iredell has given up an average of 9.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Monday just wasn't the day for West Iredell's offense. They lost 12-0 to Foard on Monday.

For Foard's part, Karsyn Sigmon made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Sigmon has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Alexa Stillwell was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those two hits gave her a new career-high. Addy Lael was another key player, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 2-for-2.

Foard always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Iredell only posted an OBP of .118.

Foard is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for West Iredell, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. West Iredell has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .452. However, it's not like Foard struggles in that department as they've averaged .477. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
