Baseball Recap: Greencastle Comes Up Short

Greencastle might've scored the first runs on Monday, but it was North Montgomery who claimed the real prize. The Tiger Cubs fell just short of the Chargin' Chargers by a score of 6-5. The defeat continues a trend for the Tiger Cubs in their meetings with the Chargin' Chargers: they've now lost four in a row.

Nathan Sutherlin was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

Sutherlin wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Sam Gooch, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Gooch is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last eight games he's played.

Greencastle's record now sits at 16-5. As for North Montgomery, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 18-8.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Greencastle will challenge South Vermillion at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for North Montgomery, they will face off against Delphi Community at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Chargin' Chargers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Oracles have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
