Basketball Recap: Academy for Technology and The Classics Comes Up Short

Academy for Technology and The Classics was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss. They were dealt a 70-42 defeat at the hands of the Robertson Cardinals. While losing is never fun, Academy for Technology and The Classics can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while Robertson is ranked 13th).

Despite the loss, Academy for Technology and The Classics still got an impressive performance from Mikey Mora, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. Mora has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Davion Martinez, who posted six points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Academy for Technology and The Classics smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Robertson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nathan Gonzales, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten boards. That's the most points Gonzales has posted since back in December of 2024. George Smith was another key player, dropping a double-double with 13 points and ten assists.

Academy for Technology and The Classics' loss dropped their record down to 6-17. As for Robertson, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 20-4.

Academy for Technology and The Classics wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 70-45 defeat against Santa Fe Indian on the 18th. As for Robertson, they have also already played their next match, a 56-55 win against St. Michael's on the 18th.
