Basketball Recap: Nimitz Comes Up Short

Nimitz fought the good fight in their overtime game against Aldine on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Aldine Mustangs by a score of 72-70. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 72-69 back in January.

Despite the loss, Nimitz still got an impressive performance from Jaden Bergeron, who went 7-for-14 to rack up 22 points and eight assists. Bergeron continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jimiren Ratliff, who went 6-for-11 en route to 16 points and five rebounds.

Aldine's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jorge Castro, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. Those 11 rebounds gave Castro a new career-high. Jameson Kegler was another key player, putting up 13 points in addition to six assists and three steals.

Nimitz's loss dropped their record down to 19-16. As for Aldine, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 23-13.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Nimitz will square off against Grand Oaks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Nimitz's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches. As for Aldine, they will challenge Conroe at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Conroe will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Aldine surely won't give up without a fight.
