Baseball Game Preview: Grainger Grizzlies vs. Volunteer Falcons

The Grainger Grizzlies will take on the Volunteer Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Grainger knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Volunteer likes a good challenge.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Grainger turned things around against Eagleton College & Career Academy on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Royals.

Josh Walker was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashton Taylor, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Grainger always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eagleton College & Career Academy only posted an OBP of .444.

Meanwhile, Volunteer never let their opponents score on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Claiborne 2-0. The victory continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won six in a row.

Grainger's win bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Volunteer, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11.

Volunteer's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Grainger has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .437. It's a different story for Volunteer, though, as they've only averaged .266. Will they be able to contain Grainger's hitters?

Grainger couldn't quite finish off Volunteer in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can Grainger avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
