Softball Game Preview: Kern Valley Broncs vs. Boron Bobcats

The Kern Valley Broncs will face off against the Boron Bobcats at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Kern Valley is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Last Thursday, Kern Valley didn't have quite enough to beat Bishop Union and fell 7-6.

Ava Elliott made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Sam Wyly was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Kern Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bishop Union only posted an OBP of .357.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Boron and Desert meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. Boron lost 12-4 to Desert. The Bobcats have struggled against the Scorpions recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.

Aubree Lyon was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Kern Valley's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Boron, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Kern Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .602. However, it's not like Boron struggles in that department as they've averaged .556. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Everything went Kern Valley's way against Boron in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Kern Valley made off with a 9-1 win. Will Kern Valley repeat their success, or does Boron has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
