Basketball Recap: Cherryville Takes a Loss

Cherryville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss. They fell 66-59 to the Bessemer City Yellow Jackets. The Ironmen were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Yellow Jackets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Cherryville lost, don't look at Andron Patterson. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave Patterson a new career-high in assists (five). Paxton Pruett was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.

It was another big night for Josiah Guyton, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards for Bessemer City. Guyton also grabbed six steals, which is notable because Bessemer City is 9-2 when he posts at least three steals, but 2-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tristen Gordon, who posted ten points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds.

Cherryville's loss dropped their record down to 1-19. As for Bessemer City, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.

Cherryville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 79-31 defeat against Burns on the 4th. As for Bessemer City, they have also already played their next contest, a 76-64 win against East Gaston on the 4th.
