Baseball Recap: Eureka Victorious

Seven must be Eureka's lucky number: they beat Fortuna with that score not once but twice on Saturday. The Loggers didn't even let the Huskies on the board, marking the Loggers' second-straight 7-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Loggers in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won five in a row.

Not much got past Brayden Bermers, who gave up just two hits and racked up six Ks to keep Fortuna off the board. Bermers also tossed a walk, which is notable because Eureka is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 1-5 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Robert Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Ty Crawford was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Eureka's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Fortuna, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-8.

Coming up, Eureka will head out on the road to challenge Arcata at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Fortuna, they will face off against McKinleyville at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Panthers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
