Georgia high school senior Mason Howell captures 2025 U.S. Amateur golf title

Mason Howell, a senior at
Brookwood (Thomasville, Ga.), became the third-youngest winner in the 125-year history of the U.S. Amateur golf championship Sunday. The University of Georgia commit beat University of Tennessee sophomore Jackson Herrington 7 and 6 to grab the prestigious title.
Only
Byeong Hun An, who won in 2009 at 17 years, 11 months, and 13 days old, and Danny Lee, who won in 2008 at 18 years and 1
month old were younger. Howell turned 18 less than
two months ago.
He is also the first junior player to lift the Havemeyer Trophy since Matt Fitzpatrick in 2013.
The
Georgia high school golf season is in the spring but Howell's next big
outing will be as part of the Team USA squad at the Walker Cup — the
amateur version of the Ryder Cup — in September at the famed Cypress
Point Golf Club in Monterey.
