Lafayette hasn't had much luck against DeSoto Central recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Lafayette Commodores will host the DeSoto Central Jaguars at 6:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Lafayette will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Lewisburg, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. Lafayette sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-7 win over Lewisburg on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Commodores.
Mabry Eason spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on 12 hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Zanieya Booker, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in April of 2024.
Lafayette kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in four consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, everything went DeSoto Central's way against Grenada on Monday as DeSoto Central made off with a 10-1 victory.
Colby Young was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Young was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Londen Armstrong was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Makayla Jamison, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Lafayette now has a winning record of 2-1. As for DeSoto Central, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
