Softball Recap: Hope Takes a Loss

Hope extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 11-8 in the process. They lost 16-6 to the Magnolia Panthers. That's two games in a row now that the Bobcats have lost by exactly ten runs.

As for Magnolia, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by six runs or more this season.

For Magnolia's part, Kloey Basinger made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Basinger has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Sophie Smith was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Emily Cole was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

While Hope had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
