Basketball Recap: Mattoon Takes a Loss

Mattoon extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping them down to 3-5. They took a 69-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marion Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Greenwave can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while the Wildcats are ranked 49th).

As for Marion, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 68.0 points this season.

Cameron Curry had another great game (as he tends to do), dropping a double-double with 22 points and 12 boards. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (seven). Mahki House was another key player, shooting 67% from the field on his way to 16 points.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mattoon and Taylorville will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Marion will take on Carbondale in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will need to watch out since the Terriers have now posted at least 55 points in their last three matchups.
