Softball Recap: Century Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Century, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Newberg Tigers with a sharp 11-1 win on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Jaguars needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Alyssa Loza was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Loza was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Avery Gonzalez was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Hailey Jordan also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Century hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 4-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Century's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-8. As for Newberg, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-7 record this season.

Century will challenge Forest Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so the Jaguars' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Newberg, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against McNary at 5:00 p.m.
