Football Recap: South Newton Takes a Loss

South Newton and North Newton pushed the score to 48-13 the last time they played North Newton, but on Friday defenses reigned supreme. The Rebels wound up with the same score they had in their last game (14-6), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Despite the loss, South Newton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore RJ Buckley rushed for 86 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries. Buckley got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 57 yards.

South Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for North Newton, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

South Newton has already played their next contest, a 34-16 win against Tri-County on the 19th. As for North Newton, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 36-7 loss against West Central on the 19th.
