Baseball Recap: South Dade Gets the Win

South Dade posted their closest victory since May 1, 2024 on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Keys Gate Knights 4-2. The Buccaneers have beaten the Knights the last four times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Knights has come to flipping the script.

Angel Ayala spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because South Dade is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 1-5 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Zac Tyre, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Kerniel Qui?ones, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

South Dade's record is now 3-6. As for Keys Gate, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Dade will face off against Braddock at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Braddock will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something South Dade surely won't give up without a fight. As for Keys Gate, they will head out on the road to face off against Sunset at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
