Recap: Forge Christian Fury vs. Platte Valley Broncos

The Forge Christian Fury had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Platte Valley and snuck past 62-60. Given Forge Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Platte Valley is ranked 198th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Owen Hovis, who scored 25 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Jakan Sederwall was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds.

Several Broncos players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Braylon Edstrom, who scored 18 points along with five steals. Edstrom hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Talyn Short, who scored 18 points along with six assists.

Forge Christian pushed their record up to 7-1 with that victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.3 points per game. As for Platte Valley, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6.

Forge Christian won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Colorado Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. Colorado Academy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Platte Valley, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Timnath at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Timnath focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Friday.
