Baseball Game Preview: Sonora Raiders vs. Woodrow Wilson Bruins

Sonora is 0-4 against Woodrow Wilson since February of 2022 but things could change on Friday. The Raiders will head out on the road to square off against the Bruins at 3:30 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sonora 2.6, Woodrow Wilson 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Sonora barely beat Savanna the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Raiders put the hurt on the Rebels with a sharp 6-0 victory on Thursday. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Rebels recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

The result came thanks to Robby Blaine's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Luke Crowder and Anthony Abad did most of the damage at the plate: Crowder got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Abad went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, Woodrow Wilson came tearing into Friday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Bears by a score of 7-2. That's two games straight that the Bruins have won by exactly five runs.

Woodrow Wilson saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rudy Carlos, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Nathaniel Parris was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.

Sonora's record now sits at 12-7. As for Woodrow Wilson, their record is now 13-6.

Sonora came up short against Woodrow Wilson in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, falling 6-3. Can the Raiders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
