Basketball Game Preview: Perkins Pirates vs. Elyria Catholic Panthers

The Perkins Pirates will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Elyria Catholic Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Perkins knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Elyria Catholic likes a good challenge.

Perkins took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They took their contest with ease, bagging an 86-49 victory over Fostoria.

Meanwhile, Elyria Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 65-59 heartbreaker at the hands of Lake Catholic. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 558th, while the Cougars are ranked 211th).

Perkins' win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 28 points. As for Elyria Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.
