Softball Game Preview: ALA - Gilbert North Eagles vs. Poston Butte Broncos

For the second straight game, ALA - Gilbert North will face off against Poston Butte. ALA - Gilbert North will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Poston Butte at 3:45 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: ALA - Gilbert North has struggled recently with 24 defeats in a row, while Poston Butte will arrive with five straight wins.

ALA - Gilbert North is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They lost 17-11 to Poston Butte on Monday. Even if the Eagles couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

For Poston Butte's part, Haylee Lopez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). Lopez has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all six of her plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Chloe Morgan was incredible, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kimberly Westover, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Poston Butte lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as ALA - Gilbert North didn't launched any home runs.

Poston Butte's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for ALA - Gilbert North, their loss dropped their record down to 0-8.
