Soccer Game Preview: Downey vs. Paramount

Downey and Paramount are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2020, but likely not for long. The Downey Vikings will be playing at home against the Paramount Pirates at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams each escaped with close wins against their previous opponents.

On Thursday, Downey needed a bit of extra time to put away Bellflower. They had just enough and edged the Buccaneers out 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Thursday Paramount sidestepped Lynwood for a 3-2 victory. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 146th, while the Knights are ranked 701st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Paramount is also on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6-1 record this season. As for Downey, their win bumped their record up to 6-8-1.

Downey took their victory against Paramount when the teams last played back in January of 2024 by a conclusive 5-0. Will Downey repeat their success, or does Paramount have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
