Baseball Game Preview: Polytech Panthers vs. Sussex Central Golden Knights

The Polytech Panthers will head out to square off against the Sussex Central Golden Knights at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Polytech will be strutting in after a win while Sussex Central will be coming in after a loss.

On Saturday, Polytech got the win against Wilmington Friends by a conclusive 15-2. The Panthers have beaten the Quakers the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Quakers has come to flipping the script.

Ryan Zimmerman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Zimmerman was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI.

In other pitching news, Deacon Herring looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Isaac Balcerak, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. William Harvey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

Polytech always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wilmington Friends only posted an OBP of .333.

Meanwhile, Sussex Central fell victim to Malvern Prep and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They fell just short of the Friars by a score of 1-0.

Sussex Central now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Polytech, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Polytech came up short against Sussex Central in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, falling 6-1. Can Polytech avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
